Lance’s passion for music began at age 10 when he heard his first trumpet solo. Then his journey into music began. After a year of trumpet lessons in public school, his parents saw his potential and enrolled him in the Los Angeles Music and Art School, a private school located in East Los Angeles.
As Lance continued playing the trumpet, he was later inspired by the Electric Ladyland Album by Jimi Hendrix, a mix of electric blues and rock. Through time the guitar became his main instrument. His influences include, David Gilmore, Carlos Santana, Albert King, John Mclaughlin, Kenny Burrell, Al di Meola, Earl Klugh, Alan Holdsworth, Vernon Reid, Eric Gale and many others.
Lance gained experience playing with various artists in clubs, recording studios and late night jam sessions. One learning experience Lance recalls is when Billy Preston came over to his studio to jam, “Billy started playing Eleanor Rigby by the Beatles.” “That’s when a jam session turned into a music lesson.” “His rhythm, style and arrangement of the song were masterful.”
Lance’s talents have taken him to perform several shows in Japan, Jamaica, and Haiti. He has performed on stage with many artists including Lester Chambers of the famed Chambers Brothers, the Sound Caster Blues Band in Japan, His own power trio Premise which backed Japanese artist Shigeo Nakashima, the Far East Family Band with founding member Fumio Miyashita with whom he later recorded the Album “Digital City” along with Bassist Calvin Hardy.
Lance currently operates Fooks Music Studio Los Angeles where he composes music for TV and Film with Fourte Music Productions. He teaches guitar to local high school students and enjoys life with his wife Elizabeth and his sons Cameron and Ryan.
